Text Box: A typical grid tie Energy Plus solar electric system consists of the following components:

Photovoltaic Solar Modules: The PV modules convert the sun’s light into D.C. electric power.

Inverters: Grid tie inverters convert the D.C. electricity to alternating current which can be used by the utility. All grid tie inverters are required to shut down in the event of a power loss from utility. The inverters may be located indoors or outside if not in direct sunlight.

Monitoring System: Systems include a Sunpower Monitoring System. This system allows the user to see relevant production data in the home. It has a wireless range of 70’ and the customer must have their own internet provider and router to see the data online. The customer receives a password from Sunpower and data can be viewed online or from an apps capable cell phone.

Racks: Many types of racks are available depending upon the installation. Roof racks generally consist of aluminum rails designed for holding the modules and aesthetic appeal. Rails are mounted on standoffs which are lag bolted through the roof to the trusses or beams which support the roof structure. Standoffs are flashed according to standard roofing practices. On tile roofs there are two levels of flashing: one for the subroof or tar paper and a second one which keeps runoff above the tile level. In some cases tiles can be removed and new composition roofing installed under the panel area.
